Located in a former 1940s shophouse, Dapur Babah is a nod towards the colonial history of Jakarta, when the city was part of the Dutch East Indies, known as Batavia, and was a thriving port populated by merchants from all over the world. The interior of this restaurant is packed with antiques from the early 20th century, most of which were collected by owner Anhar Setjadibrata, and diners sit on teak furniture to enjoy their food. Taking its cue from the combination of Chinese and Javanese cuisines which are so fundamental to Indonesian food, Dapur Babah serves dishes such as nasi tjampoer babah, a shrimp, coconut, and tofu dish, and bebek goreng boemboe lengkuas, a duck dish marinated in galangal sauce.
